VISTA — A new area investigations office that opened last week is providing an updated and more spacious facility for San Diego County sheriff’s deputies working in Vista.
On June 30, officials from the Sheriff’s Office and the city of Vista celebrated the opening of the new office in the former North County Law Library at the County Complex along Melrose Drive. The 5,000-square-foot space is nearly double the size of the old office in the complex, which shares a wall with the Vista Detention Center.
Vista Sheriff’s Capt. John Malan said the new office also features new workstations and updated technology to support deputies.
“They were very crammed in the old space, which has been used since 1978,” Malan said. It’s all around just a step up for them.”
Furniture for the new office was donated by HYOSUNG, a South Korean multinational conglomerate working in textiles, chemicals, heavy industries, and construction.
The old office will continue to be used by the Sheriff’s Office for members of the Transit Enforcement Unit, deputies contracted through the North County Transit District to promote safety along rail lines.
