Vote for a conflict of interest

If elected, I’ll lower taxes and increase ice cream subsidies.

Sorry. I forgot I dropped out of the gubernatorial race. Instead, let’s talk about the election I AM in.

It’s time to vote for the Best Educational Tutor of North County San Diego. You may recall that Write Away Books won this prestigious award last year, and we’ve been boasting about it ever since.

Today, I’m asking you to vote for us at https://www.thebestofnorthcounty.com/. We’re listed under “Education,” then “Tutors.”

As for the conflict of interest…well, you should recognize that I write this column and own Write Away Books.

My competition doesn’t have this megaphone. They’re reaching out to their mailing lists (check); asking clients, contacts and friends to vote on every electronic device they own (check); and posting on social media (check). Others are advertising. I even heard of one guy buying beer for everyone who was voting for him.

I’m counting on WAB’s reputation, clientele, friends…and readers like you. All for an election that ends April 10.

We’ll get no money from winning this award; just bragging rights. However, that will garner attention from prospective clientele, making them wonder what the fuss is about, and want to learn more about the winner.

I mean, think about it. A movie comes and goes in the theater, and you don’t get to see it. Then it wins an Oscar, and suddenly EVERYONE is buying a ticket…including you.

This cause-and-effect is hardly a coincidence.

And the reality is that after Write Away Books won this award last year, our book development business increased as new folks learned we exist and about the services we offer.

Oh, and before I forget, a heartfelt thank you to whoever nominated us in the first place. We obviously have made a positive impact on someone’s life, and they returned the favor. I appreciate the respect.

Regardless of what you sell, you may also want to look into industry awards. Not the certificates you pay for, mind you, but legitimate business awards from your trade association, chamber of commerce, or media outlet.

Because folks do pay attention to such things, and entering (and winning) can potentially have a seriously positive impact on your bottom line’s trajectory.

With that said, I wish you a week of profitable marketing.

Write Away Books. Vote early and often. https://www.thebestofnorthcounty.com/.
