To the Editor,
Dear Mayor and City Council:
I’m asking you to say “no” to the skateboard feature proposed by Councilmember Luke Shaffer at Glen Park. Glen Park is in the Cardiff Walking District, which, as you know, is old, with very narrow streets and little to no parking.
This park has been a passive park since I moved here 40 years ago. Kids love the grass and the play area; tennis is played on the two available courts; people rest and read, sometimes with their backs against a tree; and the Girl Scouts hold picnics.
I understand that ADA requirements need to be put in, but that is all. There are already two skateboard parks within e-bike distance.
Instead, please focus your attention on the L7 park, for which Glen Johnson has already given the city $100,000 to begin. Or perhaps add the aquatic center that was promised when Encinitas Community Park was envisioned. I still have the drawings if you need them, as I was on the Parks and Recreation Commission when Encinitas Community Park was being designed.
Please consider this my oral communication, as I will not be able to attend the next council meeting, where Shaffer will speak about this. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Regards,
Lorri Greene
