ENCINITAS — A train fatally struck a pedestrian Thursday at a transit depot near Moonlight State Beach.
The southbound Amtrak train hit the person shortly before 1 p.m. at Encinitas Station, 25 E. D Street in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. The victim died at the scene, Lt. Joe Barry said.
It was unclear what the person was doing on the tracks. Further details, including the pedestrian’s identity, were not immediately available.
