Train hits, kills pedestrian in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD — A train struck and killed a man who did not move out of the path of the oncoming locomotive near a Carlsbad station, authorities reported on June 15.

The fatality occurred about 2:30 p.m. Monday on the railroad tracks near Grand Avenue and Washington Street, close to the Carlsbad Village Train Station, according to sheriff’s officials.

“A southbound Amtrak train was traveling at about 80-90 miles per hour when the engineer observed a white male adult walk onto the railroad tracks,” according to Deputy Monica Ramirez.

“The male stood on the tracks and faced the train while the engineer sounded the warning horn. The male did not move off of the tracks and was struck by the train. ”

The victim, whose name and age were not immediately available, died at the scene, Ramirez said.

Northbound and southbound Coaster train runs were suspended in the area due to the death, the North County Transit District announced. Bus service was offered to affected riders.

CARLSBAD — A train struck and killed a pedestrian this afternoon at a coastal northern San Diego County rail depot, authorities reported.

The fatality at Carlsbad Village Train Station on State Street in Carlsbad occurred about 2:30 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

The victim, whose name, age and gender were not immediately available, died at the scene, Lt. Christopher Collier said.

Northbound and southbound Coaster train runs were suspended in the area until further notice due to the death, North County Transit District officials advised. The transportation agency was offering bus service to affected travelers.

“Someone (s)” will come home and wait and wait,
but this person will never arrive…life is so full with
devastation, -I will cry in my heart many times for such
