Thieves hit second school, steal more iPads

ENCINITAS — A second school in as many days was hit by thieves, their target the schools’ iPads. 

Encinitas deputies were dispatched to Eda Harris Elementary School at 1508 Windson Rd. Dec. 31 at 2:12 a.m. to find a classroom with a broken door window.

No suspects were found on site. Deputies found a broken lock on a storage cabinet where a dozen iPads were stolen.

One day earlier Sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglary alarm activation call at Cardiff Elementary School at 1888 Montgomery Ave.

Deputies quickly arrived and conducted a systematic searched the entire school with the aid of Sheriff’s canines.

San Diego Police Aerial support also assisted with the campus search.

No suspects were located.

During the campus search, deputies discovered the school’s perimeter fence had been compromised and two classrooms had broken windows. The suspects entered one of the classrooms, broke off the lock on a storage cabinet and stole a dozen iPad tablets. The total loss is estimated at $6,360.
