OCEANSIDE — Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out Wednesday in the Mission Pacific Beach Resort’s fitness room.
According to the Oceanside Fire Department, first responders received a call about the fire at 11:57 a.m. on Aug. 14. The first fire engine arrived on the scene within four minutes and was directed to the second floor, where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a piece of gym equipment that was moving into the building.
Firefighters, assisted by the building’s sprinkler system, contained the fire by deploying multiple hoses to douse the flames.
Hotel staff and guests were safely evacuated from Mission Pacific during the fire. No one was injured.
OFD received help from Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Camp Pendleton fire departments during the incident.
After the resort fire was extinguished, firefighters helped return the hotel back to relatively normal operations.
OFD encourages hotel visitors and guests to be prepared for fire emergencies by familiarizing themselves with the fire escape plan and building exists.
“In the event of an emergency, evacuate safety and calmly, close the doors behind you, and listen to and follow instructions given by hotel staff and emergency personnel,” states Battalion Chief Jeremy Brandt in a news release about the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Approximately 12 minutes into the fire response, crews received calls about a female who was severely injured when she was hit by a Sprinter train at the corner of Oceanside Boulevard and Vine Street.
A fire engine from the Vista Fire Department and a battalion chief from the San Marcos Fire Department helped respond to the injured pedestrian. An Oceanside ambulance took the woman to a rendezvous point where an emergency medical helicopter flew her to a trauma center in La Jolla.
