Man injured in hatchet attack in Vista

VISTA — A man was injured when he was attacked by a hatchet-wielding assailant in Vista, authorities said today.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 11:15 p.m. Thursday to reports of a man suffering from wounds apparently inflicted by a hatchet-like weapon in the 630 block of Sycamore Avenue, according to the law enforcement.

The victim, whose name and age were not made public, was taken to a hospital for treatment, and his injuries were considered non-life-threatening, the department reported.

Police said deputies located the suspect nearby and took the person into custody. A description of the person was not disclosed.

The circumstances surrounding the assault were unclear, but police were investigating.
