RAMONA — A man is facing multiple charges after deputies found a ghost gun in his possession during a traffic stop in Ramona, authorities said.
Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation pulled over a silver Chevrolet Colorado truck for an expired registration near 10th and B streets just before 9 p.m. on March 10, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, Brandon Nichols, 23, was found in possession of a loaded, privately manufactured firearm, commonly known as a ghost gun. Unlike registered firearms, ghost guns lack serial numbers, making them untraceable and more difficult for law enforcement to investigate.
Nichols was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on charges of possessing an undetectable firearm. He was later released on bond.
On March 12, sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of D Street in Ramona. Investigators seized firearm manufacturing equipment, illegal magazines, ammunition, and firearm components. Officials said Nichols may face additional charges as a result.
