ESCONDIDO – A centuries old Indian tradition of welcoming in spring got a modern touch with the inaugural Festival of Colors at Grape Day Park on Saturday.
Dancing, music, yoga sessions and the tossing of colors into the sky marked the first time the event was held in Escondido.
Calling it a “transformative, consciousness awakening type of event,” Charu Das, festival coordinator, began the event 15 years ago in Utah before taking it on the road to other cities as Los Angeles, Las Vegas.
The festival will be in Oceanside at the Junior Seau Ampitheater June 21.
