DEL MAR — One man was killed and two other people were injured in a rollover crash Friday night in Del Mar, authorities said. Investigators suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office’s North Coastal Station responded about 9:40 p.m. to the 2900 block of Camino Del Mar, where a vehicle carrying a woman and two male passengers had rolled over into a home’s front yard.
“Preliminary information indicates that an adult female was driving a 2008 BMW 328i southbound on Camino Del Mar,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The driver allegedly passed another vehicle on the right, lost control and ended up in the front yard of a residence.”
The driver, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with serious injuries. One male passenger was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, deputies said.
“Another adult male passenger succumbed to his injuries on scene,” the statement continued. “Drugs or alcohol were believed to be a factor in the collision.”
The sheriff’s North Coastal Traffic Division is investigating the crash.
