Cause of Hodges fire ruled as undetermined

ESCONDIDO — The cause of a small brush fire that charred 10 acres in the State Responsibility Area of Lake Hodges on July 25 has been ruled undetermined by Cal Fire investigators, said Capt. Kendal Bortisser of Cal Fire.

The fire did threaten homes in the area but no structures were lost.

Crews from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department, Escondido and San Marcos Fire Departments and Cal Fire responded to the blaze. Air tankers and water-dropping helicopters assisted firefighters in putting out the fire.

Cal Fire began transitioning into fire season earlier this year in April by hiring seasonal firefighters to help cover the full-time staff and by providing 24-hour coverage at most of its fire stations, according to their website.
