Bicyclist severely injured after being struck by vehicle in Encinitas

ENCINITAS — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a vehicle collision in Encinitas that left a bicyclist severely injured on Wednesday.

Sheriff’s officials reported the collision occurred just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and Cerro Street. The driver, a 79-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Encinitas Boulevard when her vehicle collided with the bicycle.

The male bicyclist, 45, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Sheriff’s officials said.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the collision. The Sheriff’s Office is still trying to determine where in the road the cyclist was hit, said Sgt. Jeremy Collis.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have captured the incident on surveillance or dash camera is asked to contact Collis at (760) 966-3555 or via email at [email protected]
