ENCINITAS – At 7:47 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of two pedestrians being struck by a vehicle in the 2600 block of S. Coast Highway 101.Â
A 24-year-old male driving southbound in a Toyota Corolla hit two pedestrians, who had apparently run into the roadway in front of his car, according to a Sheriff’s report.
One woman declined treatment, the other pedestrian, a 42-year-old woman, was taken to Scripps Hospital La Jolla with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators don’t believe speed or alcohol was a factor with the motorist. It’s possible that the two pedestrians were under the influence of alcohol, according to investigators.
A 42-year-old male was taken to Scripps Hospital La Jolla for potential life-threatening injuries following a solo motorcycle crash late Sunday night.
The man was traveling eastbound on Manchester Avenue when, for an unknown reason, lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle and apparently collided with a street sign. The motorcycle ended up on dry land near the San Elijo lagoon and the rider was located on the side of the road, according to a Sheriff’s report.
The accident is under investigation. Investigators believe speed and alcohol was a factor.
