REGION — Authorities today identified three men who died last weekend in San Diego-area traffic collisions.
Two of the deadly crashes took place Saturday, the first in eastern Chula Vista, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim, 34-year-old Jeremy Valencia of San Diego, got into a motorcycle crash at Otay Lakes and Wueste roads while on a group ride with friends and was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 12:45 p.m., the county agency reported.
About five hours later, Zechariah Lanier of Lemon Grove was gravely injured when the vehicle he was driving crashed off an elevated freeway connector and landed on westbound state Route 94, east of SR-15 in the Fairmount Park area, officials said.
Lanier, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident shortly before 6 p.m., according to the medical examiner.
The third roadway death took place at about 8 p.m. Sunday, when a 2017 Ducati motorcycle with two people riding it tandem collided head-on with a 2019 Ford Explorer at Avocado Boulevard and Explorer Road in La Mesa, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The man piloting the two-wheeler, 22-year-old Roby Roel of El Cajon, died at the scene, authorities said. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old La Mesa man, suffered minor injuries in the wreck, CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez said.
