DEL MAR — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals on Friday evening on suspicion of trespassing on railroad property, after residents reported seeing two people riding on top of a moving train near Del Mar.
Around 5 p.m. on Friday, multiple callers began contacting the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station to report that two people were riding atop a northbound Amtrak Coaster train heading toward Del Mar. A video captured of the individuals was shared online.
The two individuals had already climbed off the train and left the area by the time law enforcement arrived shortly thereafter. However, both were later located in Solana Beach near the transit center and arrested for trespassing after admitting they had been riding on top of the train.
No injuries were reported.

While no injuries were reported, both the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and the North County Transit District, which owns the railroad tracks, are reminding the public that dangerous behavior near railroad tracks or equipment poses serious safety risks.
“Riding on the outside of a train is illegal and can result in severe injury or death. NCTD is working with local law enforcement authorities to investigate and intends to take all appropriate legal action,” North County Transit District said in a statement.
