Toyota to pay $10 million for runaway Lexus crash

CBS8.com reports that Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to pay $10 million to the family of four people killed in a Lexus crash in August 2009.
The crash involving a runaway Lexus led to the recall of millions of Toyotas.
The Los Angeles Times first reported the settlement amount on Dec. 23. Toyota has not admitted or denied liability in the case, but released a statement that it was disappointed the settlement details had been made public.
The crash took place on northbound state Route 125 in Santee at more than 100 mph when the Lexus entered a T-intersection with Mission Gorge Road.
Off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor, 45, his wife, their daughter and Saylor’s brother-in-law were killed.
Investigators determined that a floor mat that was the wrong size trapped the accelerator, causing the crash.
