Suspect detained in fatal San Marcos stabbing

SAN MARCOS — A man in his 20s died in a San Marcos stabbing, and a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident, authorities said today.

The stabbing was reported at about 4:55 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Richmar Avenue, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Juan Marquez.

Arriving deputies found the man with traumatic injuries and provided medical aid, Marquez said. Paramedics took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 7 p.m. His name was not released until relatives could be notified.

Deputies detained a suspect at the crime scene, and investigators continue to interview witnesses, collect evidence and try to determine the motive for the stabbing, the lieutenant said.

“Based on information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident,” Marquez said. “There are no outstanding suspects and (there is) no apparent danger to the community.”

Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 858-285-6330 or 858-565-5200 after hours. Anonymous tips can be relayed through Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
