OCEANSIDE — A man sitting on the center median along Oceanside Boulevard died on Friday night after being struck by a vehicle, the Oceanside Police Department reported this weekend.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound along Oceanside Boulevard around 7:19 p.m. near the intersection with College Boulevard when it entered the median and struck the pedestrian. Officers arrived on scene and discovered an individual with fatal injuries and declared him deceased.
The victim was identified as Michael Figueroa, 40, of Oceanside.
The vehicle’s driver, also an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, according to the department. He is not suspected of having been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
An investigation is underway by the Oceanside Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit.
“Based on the investigation, Mr. Figueroa was seated on the center median at the time of the collision. Evidence indicates the vehicle veered through the intersection and traveled onto the median, where it struck Mr. Figueroa. The median in that area is very narrow,” said Oceanside Police Department spokesperson Gina Avalos.
