In loving memory of Stephen Richard Deens
May 31, 1965 – March 22, 2026
Stephen Richard Deens, 60, of Oceanside, CA peacefully entered into God’s gentle care Sunday, March 22nd at his home.
Born May, 31st, 1965, Abington, PA, he was the son of the late Henry Charles and Alice Joan (Carr) Deens.
In his early years, Stephen joined Boy Scout Troop 348, Cradle of Liberty Council, PA, earning the distinction of Eagle Scout in March, 1983; and served as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.
Soon after graduating Hatboro Horsham High School, PA in 1983, he was sworn in as a Midshipman with the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps of Villanova University, PA.
In May 1987, Stephen earned a BS in Economics from Villanova and was Commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy.
Assigned to the Engineering Department, he served aboard USS CONNOLE FF 1056; and after four years of active duty, was honorably discharged in May 1991.
Stephen pursued a myriad of career and hobby interests as a mortgage specialist, licensed stock broker, small business entrepreneur, computer repair technician, consummate baseball card collector/trader, ardent gardener, the friendly 24/7 Mr. Handyman for neighbors and friends; and despite his allergies, a devoted and loving caretaker of his (and neighbors’) pets.
Most notably, Stephen’s deep loyalty to his hometown Baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, never waned for a moment after moving to CA.
His last career was serving as an Electrical High Voltage Specialist with the Public Works Dept., Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA.
Stephen is survived by his sister, Cynthia Deens Sparacino of Hanover, PA and sister-in-law, Suzanne (Angers) Deens of Essex, CT and his many nieces and nephews Victoria Sparacino, Stephanie Sparacino, Nicholas Deens and Kaile (Janetatos), Sadie (Deens) Hahn and Nick, Brian Deens; and great nephew, Oliver Deens. Stephen was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Charles Deens, III, his brother-in-law, Richard Anthony Sparacino, nephew Vincent Deens Sparacino, and his beloved pets in life, Felix, Six Pack and Tippy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, 4 April 2026 at Oceanside Mortuary, 602 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054.
Visitation time with family will be held from 11:00-11:30 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life to remember Stephen’s life with open invitation to share memories.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Shriner’s Childrens Hospital or a charity of choice.
