SAN MARCOS — A 62-year-old man was fatally struck by a car while standing at the rear of his parked vehicle in San Marcos last week in what law enforcement is investigating as a hit-and-run.
The victim, Carey Dean Faust, was identified this week by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. According to police, Faust was standing at the back of his own vehicle in the 100 block of North Pacific Street when he was struck by a vehicle.
Faust was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police said the suspect, described as a Hispanic male, fled the scene of the collision on foot toward Mission Avenue. The individual left behind a white 2022 Hyundai Venue SUV at the scene.
The San Marcos Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. As of Sunday, law enforcement had not made an arrest in the case, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
