SAN MARCOS — A man convicted of fatally stabbing his dating partner in San Marcos is awaiting sentencing this week after being found guilty of first-degree murder.
Ziyah Jay Patterson, 31, was found guilty by a Vista jury on Feb. 20 in the December 2023 stabbing death of 42-year-old Angela Marie Lanway.
Sheriff’s deputies responded around 10:20 p.m. on the night of the stabbing to the 100 block of North Twin Oaks Valley Road, where they found Lanway suffering from a stab wound, authorities said. The victim was taken to a hospital, where she died.
In addition to the murder conviction, jurors found true an allegation that Patterson used a knife in the killing.
He faces up to 26 years to life in state prison and is due to be sentenced next month.
