CARLSBAD — A juvenile riding an electric motorcycle was badly injured in a collision involving another vehicle on Thursday night, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the intersection of Batiquitos Drive and Daisy Avenue, just off Poinsettia Lane in Carlsbad.
Upon arrival, officers found bystanders assisting the injured rider in the intersection. According to a statement, the Carlsbad Fire Department treated the young person for serious injuries before transferring him to a hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old male Carlsbad resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to Carlsbad police spokesperson Denise Ramirez.
The identities of the driver and juvenile rider are being withheld. Law enforcement also did not release the injured rider’s age or gender.
Ramirez said the cause of the collision has yet to be determined. However, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor in the crash. The juvenile was operating an electric motorcycle, which is designed for high speeds and requires a license, registration and insurance.
