Foundation hosts first-ever benefit concert

ENCINITAS — The Rob Machado Foundation, founded by surfing legend Rob Machado, has announced that it will hold its first-ever benefit concert on Nov. 12 at The Belly-Up in Solana Beach. This very special night will feature solo acoustic sets from Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik and Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman, as well as a set from Jon Swift joined by Machado.

“I’m really excited to have some amazing musicians play at one of the best venues in San Diego in support of my foundation,” Machado said. “I’m happy to create the opportunity to have the local community come out and support hometown musicians and charity. It’s going to be a fun night.”

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit The Rob Machado Foundation, a nonprofit that Machado founded in 2004 as a way to support environmental programs worldwide.

The foundation’s primary mission is to provide funding and initiate educational programs focused on helping children understand their contribution towards a healthy earth. Two specific programs benefiting from the evening are the local community-recycling program (which has installed recycling bins at Cardiff Elementary, Ada Harris and Ocean Knoll school athletic fields and aims to expand to other locations) and Hydration Nation, a collaboration between RMF and Hurley’s H20 charity giving program. This initiative aims to install water refill stations at high schools nationwide in the attempt to foster refillable water bottles and help eliminate single bottle usage. The first water refill station from this collaboration was recently installed at San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas.

Tickets are $40, or $60 for reserved seating, and are on sale at bellyup.com and at the venue’s box office: (858) 481-8140. A limited number of VIP tickets, priced at $150, are also available at tixx1.artistarena.com/robmachadobenefit/

Those who purchase a VIP ticket will also gain access to a meet-and-greet with the performers including Machado and receive a limited-edition special event poster signed by all.
