RAMONA — An Escondido man was arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were found dead inside a Ramona home, authorities said Wednesday.
Deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm in the 600 block of 11th Street at 8:44 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, they found a man on the steps of the residence and detained him without incident. Inside the home, deputies discovered a man and woman suffering from significant traumatic injuries. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The victims’ identities are being withheld pending confirmation and notification of their families.
Authorities identified the detained man as 33-year-old Ryan Proffitt of Escondido. Proffitt was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the killings remain under investigation. Investigators said the killings appear to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
