Cyclists join ride to support cystic fibrosis funding

DEL MAR — On Oct. 30, the San Diego Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted the Eurand CF Cycle for Life Tour series, which took place in 17 cities across the country.
The event chair for the San Diego-area ride was Del Mar resident Michael Lefebvre, whose 8-year-old son, Cole, suffers from cystic fibrosis. Cole was diagnosed at birth and since then Lefebvre has made it his mission to help raise awareness and money to help find a cure for this devastating disease. Lefebvre is also an avid cyclist and part of Team CF, a nationally based cycling team that helps raise awareness for CF research. Although Cole suffers from cystic fibrosis, he remains an active, happy young boy. Formerly an avid soccer player, Cole is now focusing all his time on his first passion: the drums. Eurand Pharmaceuticals and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation joined together to help raise funds for cystic fibrosis research. Eurand donated $300,000 to sponsor the series to support vital cystic fibrosis programs and research.
Ironman Champion and Cycling Hall-of-Famer John Howard served as the San Diego Cycle for Life Honorary Ambassador. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, chronic genetic disease with no known cure. It affects the lungs and digestive system of approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States and approximately 70,000 worldwide.
The tour series offered two mileage options — 37 or 66 — and followed a scenic route starting and ending at MiraCosta College, and wound its way through Poway, Rancho Santa Fe and the coastline.
