CPD arrest two Escondido men in Pizza Port stabbing

CARLSBAD — Police arrested two men Wednesday on a suspicion of stabbing a Pizza Port employee last month.

Daniel Martinez, 22, and Jose Agundez, 20, both of Escondido were booked in the Vista Detention Facility on charges of assault with a weapon and assault with great bodily injury, according to a press release from the Carlsbad Police Department.

The 26-year-old victim, who was working as a security guard, suffered multiple stab wounds after a confrontation in the parking lot on Aug. 24 at the Carlsbad Village location.

According to CPD, the victim had asked Martinez and Agundez to leave the establishment and the assault occurred outside the restaurant when another patron and the victim intervened.

The city of Carlsbad Fire Department responded to the call at 8:45 p.m. and provided medical aid to the victim. The Fire Department transported the victim to Scripps Medical Center in La Jolla where his minor injuries were treated and he was released.

Officers interviewed multiple witnesses and Carlsbad police investigators were called to the scene.
