Cardiff Library kicks off new year

Friends of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library kicked off the new year with their annual membership meeting. President Lisa Bentson chaired the meeting, which included voting for board of directors and adopting our 2018 budget.

We were honored to have member John E. Rodenhausen, president of the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, as our guest. Carrillo Ranch is a wonderful piece of preserved history in Carlsbad.

Nancy Denton, Secretary Becky Sciglimpiaglia and Bruce Meyer left our board but will continue to work as volunteers in many capacities. We welcomed new board members Kevin Kell, who is a Book Nook volunteer, and loves books and libraries; Debbie Mitchell, who feels serving on the board is a way to give back to the community; and Christie Kramer-LeVander, our returning board member who has a passion for reading and says, “The Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library is a true delight with books on every subject with new books arriving constantly.”

As the year progresses, we will have our usual First Wednesday musicals plus Movie Night along with other events and book sales.

On March 17 we will be celebrating 104 years that the library has served this community. Books will be sold for half price and refreshments will be served.

April will mark 34 years since the Friends was founded and if you aren’t a member, we invite you to join.

Membership dues afford us the opportunity to continue to purchase books, periodicals, sponsor programs for children and adults plus provide extras that our wonderful staff may need.

Visit www.friendscardifflibrary.org for the membership form or pick up one when you visit the Book Nook. As a member you may enjoy five books at half price every Monday during the year in the Book Nook, receive a newsletter three times a year and get email blasts of special sales and events.

If you love people and books, you might consider being a volunteer in the Book Nook, either with a regular day or as a substitute.

When visiting the library, you may pick up flyers or check our website for programs.

Please mark your calendars for the March 17 Birthday Bash/Book Sale and come enjoy the event and our jewel of a library. It is only one of the many, many reasons that Cardiff-by-the-Sea is the greatest place to call home.
