You’ve stocked the shelves, planned the specials and put real thought into what your business has to offer this holiday season. Now comes the part that can make all that preparation pay off: getting people through the door.
North County residents have plenty of choices about where to shop, dine, celebrate and buy gifts. Give them a reason to choose you.
The Coast News’ 2026 Holiday Happenings advertising program puts your business in front of local readers with an affordable combination of repeat newspaper advertising and a sponsored feature that tells your story across print, online and email.
Packages start at just $486 for three weeks. Complimentary ad design is included.
Whether you’re promoting a neighborhood boutique, restaurant, salon, gift shop, holiday performance or seasonal event, this is an opportunity to make your business part of North County’s holiday plans.
Three ads. One business feature. More reasons to visit.
A good holiday campaign needs both an invitation and a reason to accept it.
Your display ads deliver the invitation: a special offer, a holiday menu, a gift idea or an event worth putting on the calendar. Your sponsored feature gives readers more of the story: what you offer, what makes your business different and why they should visit.
Every Holiday Happenings package includes three weeks of full-color newspaper advertising and one sponsored business feature. That feature appears in a Nov. 20 or Dec. 4 print issue, online at TheCoastNews.com and in a special Holiday Happenings eNewsletter.
The entry package includes a 120-word feature. Larger packages provide more room to tell your story, with photos included at the quarter-page level and above. That means even a modest advertising budget can do more than put your name in a box. It can introduce your business, explain your offer and give prospective customers a next step.
Be visible where your customers live
For a local business, the value of advertising starts with reaching people who can actually become customers.
The Coast News has served North County since 1987. Its weekly newspaper reaches an estimated 50,000 print readers and is available at more than 500 pickup locations. Readers turn to it for the community news, people, places and events that matter close to home.
Your business belongs in that local conversation.
A newspaper ad gives readers something they can pause over, save, share with a spouse or bring along on a shopping trip. A compelling offer can turn a casual browse into a plan for the weekend.
And with your holiday feature also appearing online and in our special eNewsletter, your story has additional opportunities to reach readers beyond the printed page.
Ask the businesses that keep coming back
The strongest case for local advertising comes from the people who invest in it.
“The Coast News is my main source of new business.”
— Mary Eblen, Mary Eblen Health Insurance
Eblen’s testimonial describes 25 years of weekly advertising and calls that turn into new clients.
Another advertiser points to direct inquiries:
“I get 15-18 calls per month from advertising in the Coast News.”
— Dr. Claudia Cortadi, ABLANTIS DENTAL
These are individual advertisers’ experiences, and results vary. But they illustrate what business owners want from their marketing: recognition, inquiries and opportunities to earn new customers.
The goal of your holiday campaign is to give readers a clear reason to take that next step with your business.
Give your offer time to work
Someone may notice your business the first week, consider your offer the second and act when the timing is right.
That is why Holiday Happenings is built around a minimum of three issues. Repeated advertising creates more opportunities to be seen as readers make their holiday decisions.
Think about the customer looking for a gift for someone difficult to shop for. The family deciding where to take visiting relatives. The office manager choosing a restaurant for a holiday gathering. The shopper who would gladly buy locally if they knew what was available.
They don’t all make those decisions on the same day. Your campaign should give them more than one chance to find you.
Choose a package that fits your business
Three-week advertising packages are available at five levels:

Make it easy for readers to say yes
You don’t need a complicated promotion. You need a clear one.
Show readers a gift they’ll be excited to give. Tell them about your holiday reservations, seasonal services or upcoming event. Highlight something they can find at your business that makes the trip worthwhile.
Then make the next step obvious: visit the store, call for a reservation, order online or purchase tickets.
Our advertising team can help you choose an ad size and schedule, and our design team can help bring that message together.
