BONSALL — A woman convicted of driving drunk and crashing head-on into another vehicle on a Bonsall roadway, killing a passenger in the other car, was sentenced today to 11 years and eight months in state prison.
Janely Bautista, 32, was found guilty by a Vista jury last year of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges for the March 17, 2024, crash that killed 53-year-old Ricardo Becerra and severely injured his wife, Maria Becerra, who was driving.
The California Highway Patrol said Bautista’s Chevrolet Silverado veered into the oncoming traffic lane of Gopher Canyon Road just before 11:30 p.m. and struck the victims’ Toyota Camry. Both victims were hospitalized, and Ricardo Becerra was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors allege Bautista had a prior DUI conviction and a blood-alcohol level of at least 0.15% at the time of the fatal crash.
