SAN DIEGO — Authorities have publicly identified five people who were fatally injured over the last several days in San Diego-area traffic collisions.
The most recent of the deadly crashes claimed the life of a 22-year-old motorcyclist from Los Angeles. Shortly after noon Wednesday, Christopher Garabedian of Sherman Oaks was riding north on Catalina Boulevard in the Sunset Cliffs area when his 2003 Harley-Davidson crashed into an eastbound 2016 Jeep Patriot at Varona Street, according to police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Paramedics took Garabedian to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he was pronounced dead.
A day earlier, a car struck and killed a pedestrian in her hometown of Carlsbad. Vanessa Wheyland, 45, was crossing Carlsbad Boulevard at Redwood Avenue when she was hit at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, the county agency reported.
An ambulance crew took Wheyland to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
At about 2:30 p.m. Monday, a traffic crash in La Jolla fatally injured a passenger in one of the two involved vehicles. Forest Ockletree Jr., 69, died at the site of the collision in the 1500 block of Torrey Pines Road, according to the medical examiner.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, David Garcia Flores, 35, was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision on Old Highway 395 at West Lilac Road, just west of Interstate 15 in Bonsall, the county agency reported.
Paramedics took Garcia Flores to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier that same day, a hit-and-run killed a pedestrian in Lemon Grove. William Hughes, 56, was struck at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Viewcrest Drive at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Following the deadly impact, the motorist continued driving and left the area, authorities said. Hughes died at the scene.
