Woman arrested for hit-and-run

CARLSBAD– Julianne Elyse Thomson, 23, of Carlsbad, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and hit-and-run during an accident that killed a cyclist on July 27. Arthur John Jacobs, 64, of Vista, was riding his bike to work when the crash happened just north of Cassia Road at El Camino Real.
A concerned citizen made an emergency call to police after he saw a truck crash into a curb and some bushes. The truck then sped away from the scene into an apartment complex around the corner at about 9:45 p.m., according to police.
When police responded, they located Jacobs, who died from the impact. Lt. Paul Mendes said that witnesses reported the suspect’s vehicle parked at the Villa Loma apartment complex.
Authorities found the suspect’s truck unoccupied, but discovered Thomson hiding in nearby bushes.
Thomson was detained by police and taken in for a DUI evaluation.
Mendes said the young woman was subsequently arrested, transported and booked into to the Vista Detention Facility on multiple charges that included vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and DUI that caused injury/death.
Thomson was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
