GRADUATES

The following students graduated from their respective schools: Malea Williams of Carlsbad from Maryville College in Tennessee, and Lauren Littlejohn and McKenna Leasure, both of San Diego, from Belmont University in Tennessee.

HONOR ROLL

DEAN’S LIST

MIRACOSTA PRESIDENT

The MiraCosta Community College District Board of Trustees has hired Dr. Lennor M. Johnson as the school’s next superintendent and president following the retirement of Dr. Sunita “Sunny” Cooke,” who served in the role for the past 11 years. Johnson brings more than 28 years of educational leadership and previously served as the superintendent and president of Imperial Valley Community College District.

FOOD ACCESS

The Oceanside Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, awarded more than $98,000 in grants to several local organizations that ensure Oceanside families have access to healthy food: $13,457 to Brighter Bites, $25,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego, $15,000 to Feeding San Diego, $17,000 to Berry Good Food, $14,000 to Lived Experiences and $14,000 to Women’s Resource Center.

YMCA GRANT

Assemblymember Darshana Patel (D-San Diego) recently delivered a $1.23 million state grant to the Escondido YMCA for infrastructure upgrades to its soccer field, gymnasium and playground.

SWIMMING LESSONS

Sharkheart Academy is helping the region’s children ages 4-13 learn how to build confidence in the water through personalized swim instruction that focuses on safety, stroke development and lifelong water skills. Christian Wagari, a competitive swimmer, runs the program. The school also offers a gentle parent-and-child class for babies. For more information, email [email protected] or call 442-372-1998. ACTION PARK

Slick City Action Park, the world’s first indoor dry-slide and air court park designed for all ages, recently opened its newest location in Oceanside. The 29,000-square foot indoor park, located at 4241 Oceanside Blvd., offers 10 slides, basketball and dodgeball air courts and more.
