Sheri Zastoke

MiraCosta College’s Superintendent/President Dr. Francisco Rodriguez has accepted a three-year term on the National Science Foundation Education and Human Resources Advisory Committee. Among its duties, the committee advises the NSF on effective and efficient strategies for meeting the challenges of science, math, engineering, and technology education (STEM) at all levels in the United States.

Thank a nurse

Nov. 11 through Nov. 17 is National Nurse Practitioner Week. This week recognizes the contributions nurse practitioners make in providing exceptional health care to millions of Californians. Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses, licensed to provide healthcare independently, held to the same legal and ethical standard of care as physicians and committed to giving personalized, quality health care to all.

Top pilot

Jim Panknin, a 27-year veteran of the aviation field, has been appointed chief pilot for Schubach Aviation, a private air charter company based at Palomar Airport in Carlsbad.

Panknin will be charged with overseeing pilot training, safety, personnel management and regulations compliance for the company.

Finding solutions

The Vista chapter of Soroptimist International presented local nonprofit Solutions for Change with a check for $245,850 on Friday (10/26) at a luncheon event at the Solutions for Change campus in Vista.

Solutions for Change has worked since 1999 to solve family homelessness in North County.
