Small plane crashes on C’bad golf course

A Cessna 152 crashed on a hillside on the city’s new golf course property, The Crossings at Carlsbad, seriously injuring the pilot and his passenger. The crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. Sept. 22 near hole 16 of the course. Golfers, including Chris Real, who were playing nearby climbed through the brush and pulled the two young men out of the wreckage. Both sustained serious injuries. Carlsbad firefighters provided emergency medical treatment and the two men were transported to trauma hospitals by both Mercy Air and SDFD Copter 1. Their names have not been released.
Witnesses said the plane had tried to gain altitude after taking off, but it was running poorly and plummeted to the ground. The aircraft is owned by Rainbow Air located in Long Beach.
