CARLSBAD — Carlsbad High School was placed on a prolonged lockdown Sept. 3 after police received a phoned-in threat involving the campus.
Carlsbad police responded at approximately 11:26 a.m. and initiated the precautionary lockdown in coordination with school officials.
Officers and other law enforcement personnel conducted a thorough, methodical sweep of the campus, checking and clearing each area. Lt. Eric Kovanda told The Coast News that the lockdown lasted at least five hours.
Police found no physical threat at the school and said the call appeared to be unsubstantiated. Authorities also reported no indication of an outstanding suspect or danger to the surrounding community.
Officers remained at the school to assist with traffic control as students were released. School officials communicated directly with families about student pickup and after-school activities.
Police are continuing to investigate the origin of the call.
