In loving memory of Sandra Shaffer Barber
September 5, 1944 – August 12, 2026
Sandra Shaffer Barber, 81, of Oceanside, California, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, after a long recovery following a stroke in December 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Barber; mother, Erma Disney; father, Lyle Shaffer; step father, Lloyd Disney; and brother, Lyle Shaffer Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Terrie Savage; bonus mother, Carolyn Shaffer; and her children: Tania (Roger) Evans of Duchesne, UT; Ashley (Todd) Spurgeon of Fort Worth, TX; David “Lyle” Beers (Jessica Rios) of Petaluma, CA; and Jackie (Robbie) Feasel of Carlsbad, CA. She leaves 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one on the way.
Sandra lived a life devoted to learning, creativity, and family.
She loved writing, reading, history, genealogy, horses, thrifting, detective shows, movies, and British period dramas. She embraced many roles throughout her life, including mother, grandmother, author, genealogist, UCSD secretary, PBS anchor, supporter, and historian.
A private family ceremony will be held.
She will be buried at Eternal Hills Cemetery, Oceanside, CA.
