Man arrested after domestic dispute

CARLSBAD — A 30-year-old National City man was arrested Sunday after a domestic dispute involving a butcher’s knife, according to a press release from the city.

Alejandro Gutierrez was booked into the Vista Detention Facility after Carlsbad police officers responded to a call at 12:26 p.m.

The police were notified when a caller relayed he was being followed on the 1700 block of Nerine Way.

Once authorities arrived, Gutierrez allegedly darted into a residence on the 6400 block of Lilium Way and a fight between Gutierrez and the resident ensued as the man attempted to keep Gutierrez out of his home.

Police found the man and his family locked inside a bedroom after Gutierrez allegedly threatened them with the knife. They also said Gutierrez had something else in his hand, possibly a firearm.

The officers positioned themselves between the family and another bedroom where Gutierrez was believed to be hiding and escorted the family to safety, the release said.

Police were able to take Gutierrez into custody, but upon arriving at the police department, Gutierrez allegedly attempted to escape from the police car, but was nabbed before he could run away.

Gutierrez is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, brandishing a weapon, resisting a peace officer and attempted escape.
