Library comes alive with theater productions

ENCINITAS — The public is invited to attend the first production of the Encinitas Library Community Theatre as it performs “The Real Inspector Hound” and “After Magritte,” two one-act comedies on the British mystery genre.
The plays will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26, in the Encinitas Library Community Room, 540 Cornish Drive. The performance is free of charge and appropriate for all ages.
The Encinitas Library Community Theatre is an initiative of the city of Encinitas Commission for the Arts to promote the development of live theater in Encinitas. The Commission for the Arts 2002 survey, with responses from 601 residents to the question, “What do you and your family enjoy most?” rated live theater, at 72 percent, as their top choice for entertainment. “Live theater addresses the first goal of the city’s Arts Master Plan, to ‘make the arts available to all Encinitas residents,’” Judy Thum, chairwoman of the commission’s Performance Ad Hoc Committee, said.
A call was put out to the community with responses from theater enthusiasts and professionals from both sides of the curtain. The production will be directed by Judith Montague, a playwright who lives in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
Lighting and sound designer for the production is Matt Hevezi of Chazman Productions.
The cast of “The Real Inspector Hound” includes Chris Ahrens as Birdboot, Robert Nanninga as Moon, Ann Greenaway as Mrs. Drudge, Aaron Derwin as Simon Gascoyne, Brielle Meskin as Felicity Cunningham, Angela Binns as Cynthia Muldoon, Duff Tinan as Magnus and Luke Montague as  Inspector Hound.
The cast of “After Magritte” will include Frank Davis as Harris; Robert Nanninga as Thelma; Wendy Cullum as Mother; Luke Montague as Inspector Foot; and Duff Tinan as Constable Holmes.
