Four arrested in fraud, identity theft investigation

ESCONDIDO — An undercover operation conducted by the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station to recover property purchased with stolen credit cards resulted in four arrests, authorities said Thursday.

Detectives from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station began their operation at 7:30 p.m. Friday and learned a suspect “was connected to a larger criminal investigation involving extensive fraud and identity theft,” according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives then served a search warrant at a home in Escondido “and recovered narcotics and a significant amount of stolen property, including stolen credit cards and personal information belonging to numerous victims,” authorities said.

Dominic Fernandes, 34, Michael Lindsey, 39, Collin Swarts, 42, and Ashley Swikek, 36, were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance for sale and conspiracy, authorities said.

The four were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, the Sheriff’s Office added.
