ENCINITAS — The City of Encinitas is accepting applications through Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. from residents interested in serving on the city’s first Business Commission.
The commission, established by the City Council on Jan. 21, is intended to provide a formal, transparent channel for city government, including elected officials, to receive input on business-related issues from community members with real-world experience.
In addition to submitting an application through the city’s online portal, applicants will be required to attend the March 11 City Council meeting and deliver a two- to three-minute statement outlining their qualifications and interest in serving.
The commission will include seven to nine members, including at least three at-large representatives, according to city documents. With the exception of the at-large seats, commissioners must own, operate or represent a business with a valid registration under municipal code.
Each of the city’s four districts will have at least one commissioner representing a business within its boundaries.
At-large commissioners must be registered city voters.
Commissioners will serve staggered three-year terms and may serve no more than two terms. Members who miss three consecutive regular meetings will have their terms automatically terminated, according to the city.
