ENCINITAS — The Encinitas City Council unanimously approved a 3.8% increase in sewer-related fees for engineering and other services during its Aug. 19 meeting.
The increase, which takes effect Oct. 1, reflects the San Diego region’s consumer price index for the 2025 calendar year, according to city documents.
For example, the fee for a sewer lateral inspection will increase from $420 to $436.
Manhole repairs
At the same meeting, the council recognized the completion of a sewer manhole repair project along San Elijo Avenue. The item was part of the consent calendar, which the council approved unanimously.
In April, the council authorized emergency repairs to a sewer manhole at 2524 San Elijo Avenue in Cardiff.
In June, the council authorized spending up to $310,000 on the project, including inspection work and construction by Burtech Pipeline Inc.
At the Aug. 19 meeting, the council accepted the project as complete, allowing a notice of completion to be filed with the county recorder’s office.
League of California Cities
As part of the consent calendar vote, the council also designated Deputy Mayor Jim O’Hara as the city’s voting delegate to the League of California Cities’ annual conference.
The conference is scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in Anaheim.
The league’s stated mission is to use education and advocacy to advance policies that expand and protect local control for cities across the state.
More than 350 of California’s nearly 500 cities are represented in the league, according to its website.
The organization was founded in 1898, partly in response to questions surrounding the newly invented road roller and the introduction of electric lighting.
