CARLSBAD — An investigation was underway today into a fire that destroyed eight vehicles at a Carlsbad car dealership and may have been set by an arsonist.
Dispatchers received a call shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday from a person reporting that three or four cars were on fire at the Bob Baker Car Dealership at 5555 Car County Drive, Carlsbad Fire Battalion Chief Chris Lawrence said.
Crews arrived at the scene, prevented the fire from spreading to the building nearby and knocked the flames down in around 15 minutes, Lawrence said.
No injuries were reported, but eight vehicles located in the service area of the dealership were destroyed in the blaze, Lawrence said.
Surveillance video showed a person wearing a gray sweatshirt and dark pants dumping a liquid on the property, appearing to set the liquid on fire and running north away from the scene, Fox5 reported.
The Carlsbad Fire Department and the Carlsbad Police Department will be conducting a joint investigation into the fire, which is listed as “suspicious in origin,” Lawrence said.
