CAMP PENDLETON — A brush fire burned approximately 150 acres Monday on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, prompting evacuations as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The fire in a training area in the southwestern portion of the San Diego County military installation was reported early Monday afternoon, according to the nonprofit wildfire information service Watch Duty.
Within several hours, the fire had grown to an estimated 150 acres, Watch Duty reported.
As of 3:30 p.m., the flames were threatening structures on the base, prompting evacuations in some developed areas, according to Camp Pendleton public affairs.
