At least 6 vehicles involved in I-15 crash, multiple lanes closed

ESCONDIDO — A six-vehicle collision prompted slow-moving traffic on Interstate 15 near the Escondido area today.

The crash was reported around 5:48 a.m. Tuesday on the southbound I-15 north of Via Rancho Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said southbound I-15 was at a “crawl” from state Route 78 to Via Rancho Parkway. The No. 1 lane and both HOV lanes were blocked, they added.

The Del Lago HOV on-ramp to southbound I-15 was also shut down by Caltrans.

Police advised using an alternate route via exiting southbound I-15 at W. Valley Parkway, turning right and continuing onto Del Dios Road, then turning left onto W. Via Rancho to re-enter southbound I-15.

No injuries were immediately reported, and the cause of the crash was unclear.
