Cole Bradley of San Marcos, Matthew Goates of Encinitas, and Ellie Lofting of Vista graduated from Utah Tech University. Additionally, Jadon Bowen of Oceanside graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska, Micaiah Huebscher of Oceanside graduated from Bob Jones University in South Carolina, and Katie Bausch of Oceanside graduated Union University in Tennessee.
NEW NAME
The Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito has stepped away from its affiliation with the National Assistance League and is now known as Impact Coastal Alliance. As an independent organization, Impact Coastal Alliance will have greater flexibility and local focus, with 100% of funds raised through the Impact Coastal Alliance Thrift Shop, grants, and fundraising events staying in the community.
BOTANIC GARDEN CEO
Adam Schwerner has been named the next president and chief executive officer of the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas beginning June 15. Schwerner, with over 30 years of experience in public horticulture, landscape design, and visual storytelling, most recently served as the Director of Horticulture and Resort Enhancement at the Disneyland Resort, where he oversaw horticulture, landscape, facilities, and visual storytelling across Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and provided oversight of horticulture at the Resort’s hotel.
NATIVE STAR
Assemblymember Tasha Boerner recognized San Diego-based Native Star as Small Business of the Year for the 77th district. Native Star is a luxury boutique featuring items designed by local indigenous people. The business was founded by tribal member Ruth-Ann Thorn.
OPERATION DUFFEL BAG
The Assistance League of Inland North County recently provided 86 duffel bags for graduating seniors experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in the Escondido Union High School District through Operation Duffel Bag. Each student received an extra-large backpack filled with more than 35 essential items valued at approximately $460, including a sleeping bag, travel pillow and pillowcase, laundry bag, detergent and more.
STUDENT SHOWCASE
Student artists from San Dieguito Academy participated in the Student Art Showcase hosted by Corner Frame Shop and Leucadia Art Gallery on May 9. Angela Jackson, visual art teacher, said students created a body of work based on a self-selected theme and developed personal websites to market themselves and their work. She said the mix of skills for artistic expression and professional skills are both critical for a career in the arts.
