TEACHER GRANT PROGRAM
Leucadia Wastewater District granted awards this month to three local teachers who will provide hands-on learning experiences to more than 600 students: $2,000 to La Costa Canyon High School teacher June Honsberger for her “Outdoor Laboratory,” a venue for international baccalaureate students to conduct water-related investigations; $1,500 to Capri Elementary School teacher Nancy Jois, whose students are creating a “No Wipes Down the Pipes” video to illustrate the damage sanitizing wipes can cause to wastewater collection systems; and $2,000 to Park Dale Lane Elementary School teacher Barbara Larson for her “Rain Harvesters Improvements” project, which is designed to enhance on-campus rainwater harvesting systems.
FUNDRAISING GOAL
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego raised $425,000 during its recent fundraising campaign from over 140 community donors, with an additional $425,000 in matching funds from seven lead donors: The Seth Sprague Educational and Charitable Foundation, the J. Douglas and Marian R. Pardee Foundation, Keith and Pamela Fox Foundation, Tracy Family, Wild Wisdom Foundation, Barbara Ann Steel Charitable Foundation and David and Tina Thomas.
CHAMBER CHAIRMAN
The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce has appointed Michael W. Glenn as its new chairman of the board. Glenn is a 30-year Encinitas resident who brings more than 15 years of experience strengthening partnerships between businesses, nonprofits and government agencies throughout San Diego County.
SENIOR CITIZEN
The City of Encinitas Senior Citizen Commission in partnership with the Encinitas Rotary Club will honor an Encinitas resident with the annual Senior Citizen Service Award. The award recognizes someone who demonstrates outstanding volunteerism, leadership, helping, teaching, mentoring or advocating for others in the city. COMMUNITY IMPACT
The Community Resource Center is accepting nominations for the 2026 CRC Community Impact Awards, which will be presented on March 6 during a special event at the Loma Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach. Nominees must live, work, volunteer or be based in Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, Oceanside, Rancho Santa Fe, San Marcos, Solana Beach or Vista. Nominations must be submitted by Jan. 25. SOLAR PLUS
The Clean Energy Alliance is partnering with San Diego-based Luminia to expand its Solar Plus Business program by installing solar and battery storage systems or standalone battery storage systems on commercial, industrial, municipal and school district properties across CEA’s service territory, which covers Carlsbad, Del Mar, Escondido, Solana Beach, San Marcos, Oceanside and Vista. Under the program, these properties may be eligible to host on-site solar and battery storage at no upfront cost and predictable energy rates, while the broader community gains increased grid reliability, lower emissions and local job creation.

Goodwill San Diego has recently opened its new location at 7849 Herschel Avenue in La Jolla. The location is strategically placed near Prospect Street, which serves as a gateway to La Jolla Cove and other popular tourist destinations.
