Victims of fatal San Diego-area traffic collisions identified

SAN DIEGO — Authorities have publicly identified six people who died over the past week from injuries sustained in traffic collisions across San Diego County.

The most recent fatality occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, when 21-year-old Nicolas Henderson died in a solo crash on northbound Interstate 5, just south of Interstate 8 in Old Town, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, 20-year-old Aaron Cardenas of San Ysidro died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 5, south of Mile of Cars Way in National City, on April 2. He had been hospitalized at UC San Diego Medical Center following the collision and was pronounced dead Friday evening.

Also Friday, 86-year-old Jerry Richards of Oceanside was critically injured in a collision at Carlsbad Village Drive and Glasgow Drive in Carlsbad. He was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he died later that evening.

Last Wednesday, 70-year-old Nabeel Qiryaqos of Santee died after a solo crash on East Chase Avenue in El Cajon. He was transported to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, where he died about an hour after the collision.

That same day, 46-year-old Steven Valliere of San Diego died at Sharp Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on Fletcher Parkway at Village Parkway in El Cajon on July 20.

Also last Wednesday, 18-year-old Julianna Yoon of Irvine died from injuries sustained in a July 25 crash on southbound Interstate 5 near the Aliso Creek Rest Area. She had been taken from the scene to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where she died four days later.
