Solana Beach women take national tennis title

 

SOLANA BEACH — The United States Tennis Association Southern California women’s tennis team, from Solana Beach, captured the national title at the USTA League Adult 40 & Over 3.5 National Championships held in Tucson.The Solana Beach team defeated a team from Alamo, Cal., 3-2 to win the championship match. Earlier in the day, the Solana Beach team defeated a team from Landisville, Pa. 3-2 in the semifinals. They advanced by winning their round-robin flight contest Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

The team is captained by Keira Kim and features Kristen Campbell Fine, Lisa Anne Pathman, Constance Malloy, Rosette Garcia, Charleen Zieky, Rose Morris, Jennifer Benshoof, Dana Fudurich, Dyana Brown, Coach Caroline Vis, Dominique Alessio Nielander and Beth Karp. The group plays at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.

Representing Southern California, they placed ahead of Northern California, Midwest, and Middle States.

USTA League was established to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels.  Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 Sections.
