ENCINITAS — Hundreds of residents and visitors filled a stretch of South Coast Highway 101 on Sunday for the city’s annual Cyclovia Encinitas, a community event celebrating active transportation and sustainable mobility.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the roadway between D Street and I Street was closed to vehicle traffic and opened to cyclists, pedestrians, skaters and other non-motorized users. The event featured a festive atmosphere with free activities, including a bike safety rodeo, helmet and bike decorating, and demonstrations from groups like BikeWalk Encinitas and Sprockids San Diego.
The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and other local organizations, organized Cyclovia, which highlighted the city’s ongoing push for healthier, more connected modes of travel.
North County Transit District also participated with its “Bikes on Buses” program, educating attendees on combining cycling with public transit.
Officials estimate the event drew hundreds, possibly thousands, of participants.
